In order to share our vision with you, I need to tell you a quick story. With that, I ask you to lend me your attention for the next minute or two.
When my wife and I first discussed opening Trevella Stables we thought it best to lay out all of our ideas so that we can create a "vision" that the two of us could believe in. Little did I know, Christine already had a vision! One that would sweep me up in its wake as it found its way to reality. You see Christine wanted to share her passion for riding without all the roadblocks and red tape typically attributed to the equestrian world. She outlined areas where she wanted to be different and sought my help to develop a new approach.
So the "LIST" was created... first, we needed to be honest with ourselves about who we are. That began by narrowing our field training to the English riding, in particular competitive Hunter/Jumper. Then we identified "WHO" we wanted to share our passion with, and the answer was simply "aspiring equine athletes". Those that would NOT just look at riding as a pass time but rather dedicate themselves to the sport of riding and focus on the development and testing of their skills in a competitive equine environment.
After having identified "WHO", we needed to turn our focus to "WHAT" we needed to provide them with in order to help them develop as equine athletes. Well there was the obvious. They would need coaching, horses and facilities within which to practice. However, we didn't stop there!
- We took the lead of other farms and introduced rider levels and competing as a means to identify increased skills.
- We invested in quality schooling horses because we recognized that good horses make good teachers.
- We starting a coaching program under Christine's tutelage that would see one generation of rider help in the development of the next.
- We began a “Not for Profit” fundraising program to help riders and their families financially support their passion.
- We sought out sponsorship for our events and used those moneys to create a more enjoyable event experience.
- We invested in their health and well being and introduced rider fitness training and provided the facilities and equipment.
- We diversified and introduced clinics that involved parents and supporters instead of them only being spectators.
- We invited the parents and supporters to take on greater roles and responsibilities within our organization because we recognized they had more to offer than just a paid invoice.
Most importantly,
- We promoted the values of team and family so that each rider knows that when they pass through that gate, they’re NOT alone!
So what is our “vision” you ask? Our answer is… Join us and see for yourself!
